24-hour PURE packraft race

True West 24-Hour Pure Pack Raft Race

True West Adventure Race continues to lead the way in innovation within New Zealand adventure racing. New for 2027 is a pure 24-hour pure packrafting race, a stripped-back, two-discipline challenge designed for those who love moving fast and light through wild landscapes.

Simple in concept: hike and paddle.

Teams will journey through rugged mountains and along spectacular coastline, linking remote terrain with the now truly legendary True West paddling stages. This is packrafting at its raw best, self-propelled, immersive, and deeply connected to the landscape.

True West. Explore further. Paddle longer.

The first-ever True West pure packrafting race is here, a bold fusion of packrafting and adventure racing.

Teams will venture deep into the wilderness, carrying everything they need: packrafts, paddles, and essential running and hiking gear. This is not just a race, it’s a true expedition. Navigation is key, with the exact course revealed only the day before, demanding sharp decision-making and adaptability.

Expect remote terrain, stunning West Coast landscapes, and dynamic river travel. Teams should be confident on Grade 2+ water and capable of safely handling Grade 3 conditions if required.

Compete in teams of 2, 3, or 4 and take on an unforgettable journey by foot and by river, exploring wild mountains, untamed rivers, and the raw beauty of the West Coast like never before.
