24-HOUR ADVENTURE RACE

A mission in waiting

packRafting - mountain biking - hiking - navigation

The 24-hour race is designed for people who are after a massive challenge and adventure, but aren’t quite ready for the 48-hour epic. With a winning time of 12-hours, many teams will be racing into the dark as they work hard to progress through the course to reach the finish. Teams have 24-hours to finish, if they are determined. Teamwork, navigation skills, resilience and perseverance are required. Do not underestimate this event, 12 to 24-hours on the West Coast is significantly tougher than just about every other region in New Zealand.

PACK RAFTING 24-hour race

The whitewater sections in the 24-hour race are expected to reach up to Grade 2+.

However, this is the West Coast, where rainfall can be significant and river levels can rise and fall rapidly. Teams are therefore strongly advised to be capable of paddling Grade 3 rapids.

If Grade 3 rapids are included on the course, portage options will be available, allowing teams to walk around any rapids they are not comfortable paddling.
